had quite enough.

March 31, 2009

I’ve had quite enough of Victorianism and gardens and Imperialism and spaces and islands and childhood.

So instead of reading my readings or coral island or secret garden on the way to/from school, i will bring my non-academic christian book and read instead. YES I WILL. maybe your brain will appreciate the break, la huh, shao? after all, you’ve been pretty much stuck on those same few words and ideas even after many many readings. :/

It has been a strange week.
Went to school today (it was a free day) to borrow materials for literature essay due first week april.

Bumped into hr in the photocopying room. and j in the library.
Met up with kr girls – mel fc sm sh viv – at subway in what has been the longest time!
Met jas for dinner at vivocity’s hk kim gary (what a weird name). j came from school too.
No space for intended b&j’s, but had a great time talking. i think! :)
Bumped into a at dhobt ghaut and it was pleasant to have some company all the way home (second time bumping into my block-mate!)
Bumped into mama at the bus stop! (just after talking on msn this morning!)
Had a short chat with hr on msn about teaching and church. i’m glad at least we’ve opened up a topic for discussion further in future. :)

completed gek2001 group project essay – yay, thank God, this is probably the most efficient group essay i’ve ever been a part of! something I really appreciate with all the other deadlines to meet!
i received an A for a geog essay – first in a long time too.

he decided to leave for good. i do not know why. i should tell her, but what and how? :S

a thousand times over

March 24, 2009

i have the tendency of accumulating grudges against MSN and SMS lately. i think we should all stick to traditional social communication methods of drinking tea and talking over the phone.

Apparently, Vladimir Nobokov was a synaesthete.

caused a dent in the car door driving in the least-expected place, out of sheer vanity.
almost got hit by a car on campus who read the traffic signals wrongly.
took almost an hour to get out of school: the traffic congestion can be atrocious.
frustratingly bad day.

things to be thankful for

homecooked dinners at church before prayer meet and choir with all the brothers and sisters, uncles, aunties. :)
quoting the hcjcians: “很幸福”.
music
. it uplifts and encourages.
not being hit by the car.
my super mum.
my sweet brother.
my steadfast sister.
my strange but smart brother.
bible study opportunities in a God-fearing church.
our home: it is such a blessing from God.
awesome schoolmates like christine, seehwei and mel this semester who non-grudgingly bears with my inconsistencies.
prof holden and his encouragement regarding honours.
SEP last semester.
a scholarship through university and an employment upon graduation: without which my family would be much tighter financially.
learning from a variety of disciplines this semester.
singapore.
and the list goes on.

You are my Rock and my Salvation, on Your alone my Faith will surely stand.
I face each day with joyful expectation, because my life is in Your hands.

power in the Word

March 2, 2009

For the past few Sundays, the sermons have consistently urged us to view the church as a home where Christ’s glory and Truth is manifested. These two should closely emulate one another, and not just on an ideological level, but in a living sort of way.
